Preeclampsia Treatment Options

Temple Health has been recognized for its excellence in maternity care and offers specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, including preeclampsia. Your doctor will evaluate your symptoms and risk factors, and recommend the treatment that is right for you and your baby.

Options include:

  • Early delivery - Delivery is usually recommended at 37 weeks for preeclampsia that is not severe, or earlier for more severe cases.
  • Medication - Medication might be prescribed to manage blood pressure and prevent other complications until the baby can be delivered.
  • Monitoring - If you’re diagnosed with preeclampsia, you will likely need to have more frequent prenatal visits to monitor blood pressure and other symptoms.
  • Hospitalization - In severe cases, you may be hospitalized for close monitoring until the baby can be delivered.
  • Care after delivery - Your doctor will likely want to monitor you for signs of postpartum preeclampsia after delivery.

If you're experiencing signs or symptoms of preeclampsia, schedule an appointment or call 800-TEMPLE-MED (800-836-7536) today.
