Breast Health

At Temple, we provide comprehensive, personalized care to support your breast health at all stages of life. Our physicians, nurses, radiology specialists, and counselors specialize in women’s health and are dedicated to the early detection and treatment of breast cancer and other breast conditions. From regular screenings and genetic counseling to diagnostic testing and minimally invasive treatment options, we offer a full range of breast health services at multiple locations in North Philadelphia.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Routine screenings are important to monitor your breast health and detect any abnormalities early on so that we can work with you to choose the most effective treatment approach. At Temple, we aim to make you feel comfortable making informed decisions about your health while providing the highest quality breast care.

Services We Offer

We use the latest breast health imaging, testing, and treatment technologies. Some of our services include:

Breast cancer screening

We provide standard and 3D mammograms to screen for breast cancer and other conditions. These low-dose breast images help your doctors find any abnormal changes in breast tissue.

Women with dense breast tissue may benefit from other types of breast imaging in addition to mammography, such as ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Your doctor can help you decide the best type of screening for you.

Breast biopsy

If your doctor spots something new or unusual in your breast cancer screening, you may need a breast biopsy. During a biopsy, a small sample of breast tissue is removed for testing to determine whether a lump or growth is cancerous or not.

We offer minimally invasive breast biopsies, including MRI-guided, ultrasound-guided, and stereotactic. The procedure your doctor recommends will depend on factors like the size of the suspicious mass and its location in your breast.

Breast surgery

We offer a comprehensive range of breast surgery options, from breast-sparing treatment to mastectomy and breast reconstruction. Your doctor may recommend breast surgery to treat breast cancer, breast infection, non-cancerous breast tumors, and other conditions. Working with you and your doctor, we help you navigate which surgery is right for you.

Risk assessment and genetic testing

If you have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, your doctor may suggest a risk assessment. Our specialized team of physicians, nurses, and genetic counselors can help you determine whether you are at high risk for breast cancer and whether genetic testing is recommended. Genetic testing is a blood test that looks for inherited changes in genes that can cause disease or increase your risk of getting a certain disease, such as breast cancer.
