Lung Center

Critical Care Program

Temple Lung Center’s critical care services provide specialized care to patients with serious, immediate healthcare needs. Critical care services are provided at Temple’s intensive care unit or “ICU.” It is staffed by specially trained doctors and nurses, as well as respiratory therapists, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians, and other staff trained to treat seriously ill patients.

Critical patients may be transferred to Temple’s ICU from their local emergency room, from the emergency room at Temple University Hospital, from a nursing home or other care facility, or from another hospital’s ICU. Once they arrive at Temple, these patients receive excellent care, provided by a multi-disciplinary team that is dedicated to critical care medicine. Some patients may begin treatment in the ICU and be transferred to another unit when their condition improves.

At Temple Lung Center’s ICU, patients benefit from an in-house attending physician 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Temple’s ICU has 28 beds, dedicated ICU physical therapy services, and dedicated ICU pharmacy services, including a pharmacist who goes on rounds with the critical care team.
