Hearing & Balance Center Conditions and Treatments

Hearing disorders result in a sudden or gradual loss of hearing in one or both ears. Most hearing disorders can be successfully improved or resolved with hearing aids, implanted hearing devices, medications or surgery.

Conditions Treated

Hearing disorders treated at Temple's Hearing & Balance Center include:

  • All types of hearing loss whether sudden or gradual, mild or severe, conductive or sensory
  • Tinnitus or ringing in the ears
  • Chronic ear disease or ear infections
  • Ear cysts, nodules, abnormal growths or tumors
  • Perforated ear drum
  • Abnormal bone growth of the middle ear, such as otosclerosis
  • Eustachian tube dysfunction, fluid in ears and ear fullness

Diagnosis 

Diagnostic tests available at the Temple Hearing and Balance Center include:

  • Hearing tests for adults and children, including high frequency testing
  • Cochlear implant candidacy testing
  • Ototoxicity monitoring for patients on chemotherapy or other medicines
  • State-of-the-art balance testing (VNG, VEMP, ECochG, etc.)
  • Auditory-evoked potentials testing (ABR, awake or sedated)
  • Newborn hearing screen and follow-up
  • Advanced middle ear and Eustachian tube testing
