Critical Care Program History
Temple University Hospital (TUH) is a level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Burn Center, and leading transplant center with 10 rounding ICU teams across 6 ICUs. The system offers additional specialized ICU care for neonatal patients and within our community hospital settings.
TUH is a member of the Temple University Health System (TUHS), which is composed of 5 hospitals. TUH is a 576-bed institution and is the primary hospital of TUHS located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is also the chief clinical training site for the Temple University School of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, as well as other healthcare professional disciplines.
Additionally, the resident will have many opportunities to engage in teaching through partnership with the Temple University School of Pharmacy.

Statement of Purpose
The PGY2 Critical Care pharmacy residency program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 Critical Care pharmacy residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in Critical Care.
Why Complete PGY2 CC Training at Temple?
Temple University Hospital's PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency is a comprehensive 12-month program designed to transition the resident from a generalized clinical pharmacist to a specialized expert in the management of critically ill patients. Based in a high-acuity academic medical center, the residency provides diverse clinical experiences across a wide range of specialized intensive care units, including Medical Respiratory (I and II), Cardiovascular Surgical, Surgical Trauma, Neurocritical Care, and Burn Intensive Care.
The program is structured to provide a solid foundation in core critical care principles before offering flexibility through elective rotations, such as Antimicrobial Stewardship, Neonatal ICU, Medication Safety, Toxicology, and Addiction Medicine, allowing the resident to customize their training to meet specific career goals. A key focus of the residency is the development of clinical independence.
