Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a specialized surgical method to enhance the size, shape and symmetry of the breasts.

Breast augmentation procedures may be performed for a number of reasons, such as to increase the size of breasts that the patient feels are too small, to add fullness in specific breast areas, to equalize breasts that are two different shapes or sizes, or to restore breast volume lost due to pregnancy or weight loss.

Temple Plastic Surgeons provide a full range of breast augmentation procedures that help patients achieve the desired appearance, including:

Silicone implants

Silicone breast implants consist of a silicone shell filled with silicone gel, which feels the most similar to natural breast tissue.

Saline implants

Saline breast implants are soft silicone sacs filled with sterile saline solution (salt water). Because saline implants are filled after they are placed in the body, the volume can be adjusted during the procedure. Structured saline implants also include a series of inner chambers to control the movement of saline to provide softness with greater stability.

Form-stable implants

Also called “gummy bear” implants, form-stable implants are firmer and provide more projection of the breast than traditional implants.

Breast lift

Also called mastopexy, breast lift surgery restores the breasts and nipples to a more youthful shape, position and firmness, which may have changed due to pregnancy, breastfeeding or aging. In some cases, breast lifting may also be performed at the same time as other augmentation procedures to enlarge the breasts.

Fat grafting

Fat grafting techniques are used to sculpt and enhance the breasts by transferring fat from a different area of the body. Living fat cells are removed from the abdomen, hips or thighs and carefully injected into the target site in the breasts to increase fullness and create the preferred shape.

Depending on the type of breast augmentation procedure performed, the surgeon will first make an opening in the skin, either in the natural fold beneath the breast (inframammary fold incision), around the edge of the nipple (peri-areolar incision) or inside the armpit (axillary incision). The surgeon will then reshape the breast by placing an implant, the patient’s own fat cells, or in some cases a combination.
