The Hablamos Juntos Project

Hablamos Juntos is an initiative to improve health care access and quality for Latinos with limited English proficiency (LEP) by developing cost effective solutions to language barriers. The project is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered by the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute.

Ten sites were chosen to develop unique models based on their specific organization and community characteristics. The models will be evaluated both on their ability to address language barriers and on their financial impact. As a demonstration project, the models must make business as well as clinical sense in order to prompt language capacity improvement among all providers serving Latino communities.

The grant period is three years, consisting of a one-year planning period and a two-year implementation period. The two-year implementation period began October 1, 2003.
